We know families are busy and receive information from many different places. Here’s a quick guide to the main Highlands communication channels and what to use each one for.

Parent Square 

ParentSquare is the primary communication platform used by Highlands Elementary and the San Mateo-Foster City School District.

Please make sure all parents and guardians in your household have access and notifications turned on.

Through ParentSquare, you can receive:

• The Principal’s weekly newsletter and important school-wide updates
• Communication from your child’s teacher
• District announcements and reminders
• Parent-teacher conference sign-ups and other school forms
• Messages translated into your preferred language

Please keep your contact information current in the AERIES Parent Portal, which feeds information into ParentSquare.

We want all Highlands families to feel informed, welcomed, and connected.

Families who prefer to communicate in Spanish can connect with our Spanish-speaking liaison, for help navigating PTA information, events, volunteering, and opportunities to get involved.

ParentSquare also allows families to receive and respond to school communications in their preferred language.

Bear Bytes Newsletter

Bear Bytes is the Highlands PTA newsletter and is shared with families through ParentSquare.

Look for Bear Bytes throughout the year for:

• PTA news and reminders
• Upcoming events

• Fundraising updates
• Ways to get involved in the Highlands community

Because Bear Bytes is delivered through ParentSquare, make sure your ParentSquare notification settings are up to date.

Calendars

Subscribing to the school calendars is one of the easiest ways to keep important dates at your fingertips.

There are three main calendars:

• PTA Calendar: PTA meetings, events, fundraisers, and activities
• Highlands School Calendar: School-wide events, staff development days, and school dates
• SMFCSD Calendar: District-wide school dates, holidays, and district events

Tip: When you subscribe, new and updated events can automatically appear in your phone or computer calendar.

Highlands Elementary School Website

The Highlands Elementary School website is the best resource for official school information, including staff and teacher information, bell schedules, School Site Council, school resources, and other academic and operational information.
