As we close the school year next Thursday, I would like to thank each and every one who has contributed to making Highlands Elementary School such a great place to learn. We could never have done it without the dedicated efforts of our staff, families and community support. Thank you to the work of our wonderful PTA, School Site Council, Art in Action Parents, Room Parents, Gardening Parents, Library Parents, etc. The list goes on. Without you, we would not have our children enjoying all that you bring to them. This is what makes us special.
I will be sad to see our 5th graders leave us for middle school, but am excited to meet our new TK/Kindergarten students. We forget how much each child has grown over the year until we see our new students. This is always a very bittersweet time of year, as a school is not a school, without students. They will all be missed for the summer. Please make sure that reading is a focus and a daily event for the whole family. Have your children write letters to loved ones. Ask them to figure out how many variations of counting they can do. We appreciate your working with your children in the summer so that they have the best success in the fall. Here are a few dates to put on your calendar. Specific information will be sent to you closer to the events.
You will be notified, prior to the beginning of school, as to your child’s teacher and room number. We will not be posting this information, for reasons of privacy. Please check your address with the office if you have moved lately, so that you will receive your information in the mail, on time.
TK/Kindergarten Head Start Day
Head Start Day for TK and Kindergarten will take place on Monday, August 13 at 2PM. Get a "Head Start" on the new school year and join us in the Kindergarten playground. TK/Kindergarten families are invited to a special Meet & Greet with kids and teachers in the classrooms on Head Start Day, and a TK/K Parent Orientation & Back to School Night that evening at 6PM. More information about this will be mailed home before school begins.

Welcome Back Coffee in the LGI
Once you have taken your child to class on the morning of August 14th, please join all of the other parents who may console you in the LGI. There will be a lot of information, sign ups, coffee, and tissues for those who need them. Don’t miss this event for parents to get to meet others in your child’s class. More information to come.
Have a wonderful and safe summer. We look forward to creating a new family in the fall.
Thursday, June 21 - Last Day of School (minimum day)

TAKE SCHOOL SUPPLY SHOPPING OFF OF YOUR SUMMER TO DO LIST!
The PTA will once again be purchasing back to school supplies for each of the students for the 2018-18 school year! This is made possible through your generation donations to the Highlands SMART Fund. Thank you and have a nice summer!
DON'T FORGET THOSE BOXTOPS!
Don't forget to keep collecting the Box Tops for Education this summer! It's super easy and a great way for our school to receive extra money! This year alone, those colorful Box Tops raised an additional $578.80 for our Highlands SMART Fund which goes to PTA funded programs like Art in Action, Music, Lunchtime Enrichment, Garden, Science and so much more! The first collection date will be in September!
